Motif and Repeating Pattern

Motif and

Repeating Pattern

These are my two repeating patterns that i made for graphic design. A motif radiates from a center point while a repeating pattern can continue if you connect the two ends.

The scope of he project was to crete our own original patterns after we had done some tutorials and learned the skills. We also all voted on colors to use so that they had some form of uniformity. That taught me how to use the color books with a specific number to find the exact same shade as everyone else.

The day after I made my repeating pattern I went to the gas station and saw the same pattern in black on a door matt! I thought it was quite funny. It just showed me how patterns are just     used everywhere and that made me giggle.
I learned a lot during this project especially when i learned that making mistakes is sometimes good and thats how my motif was created.

  1. I think that your motif is really pretty! The flower shape in the center is very nice and delicate and the sharp and round edges go well together. The geometric shapes surrounding it give it a nice "depth" to it, if you get me. However, the geometric shapes look a little uneven in stroke weight. Is it intentional or is it a mistake? I think it would look a lot better if all the strokes were the same weight.

The repeating pattern is really good, in my opinion. I like the contrast between the vertical and horizontal lines, and how the differing colors of gray and blue increase the contrast. It's just visually very appealing and i just like it in general. However, there are little white spaces between each "block" of lines. Again, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but I think it would look better if the white spaces weren't there and the shapes just went directly into each other. The spaces as they are disrupt the eye and make it feel jarring and a little off.

  2. I like how you changed the directions of the lines on the repeat pattern, and I also love how how you changed the shape on the motif as you went out farther.

  3. I love your Pattern and Motif! I love the way the Motif looks like it has a little baby flower blossoming out of it. I love the way your Pattern is. It has a beautiful feeling to it. Good job! :D

  4. I love your repeat pattern so much. I feel your motif is little to simply. The thing in the center of you motif is beautiful

  5. I love the motif and think it is very interesting! I also like the repeating pattern because it is so simple which I think adds to the amount of quality of the work.

Orthogonal Cube

In illustrator we made orthogonal cubes. We watched a tutorial on Lynda.com to figure out how to make all of the sides equal. We had to copy and paste the three main lines and copied them several times to finish off the cube. Then we added color to the cube to give it depth/perception. The darker colors make it look farther behind and the lighter shades make it come forward. Then i rounded the edges of the cube so that way it did not have weird tails that lost the flow of the eye making it look 3D.  This was a challenge for me because there was so many steps to do to make it look accurate. However the end result was with it, because it looked really awesome and it's cool to say that I made this from scratch.

Famous Logo Tutorial!

Google Play Logo!  This is the Google Play logo that I made with a tutorial. The logo was surprisingly easy. The most difficult part was creating the correct gradients to try and match it the best I could. Along with messing around with the opacity. I had a tom of fun making this logo and it only took me about 15 minutes to create!

Semester 1 Reflection

Name Typography:  As the year started,  we received a name typography project. The goal of the project was to take our name and turn the typography into something that would reveal some of our personal interests.  For example, I personally enjoy jewelry so I made Abigail appear like it was written with pearls. This project took around three weeks from the first of the school year. I struggled with reaching out of my comfort zone coming into junior year. This helped me learn that it is okay to have multiple ideas and that not all of them will work out the way that you planned. I was critiqued mainly on taking some of the concepts too literally instead of pushing them outside of the box. I changed several of them by going all out with some of the ideas that I had started. Making my ideas stand out really helped make my concepts stand out on the page. I really enjoyed tis project because it refreshed my memory on how to use Illus...
